Friends of the Orchard sow seeds for success

There’s magic happening at Maleny Grove, with the orchard planting now officially complete.

Thanks to the dedication of residents Barry Smith and Sue Yeo, along with generous community support, every available space is now thoughtfully planted, and the orchard is well on its way to becoming a flourishing, self-sustaining feature of the village.

Recent additions include welcoming three new fruit trees – a currant bush, a pineapple guava, and a finger lime, which is almost ready to pick.

The community herb garden has also come into its own, with residents encouraged to drop by and help themselves to the produce. Anyone whipping up a batch of homemade basil pesto will find there’s plenty growing and ready to enjoy – yum!

Adding to Maleny Grove’s sustainability efforts, a community composter is now available outside Villa 115, kindly shared by resident Sharon. Clear instructions are displayed on the unit, and residents are encouraged to contribute suitable food scraps and garden materials. The compost will help nourish the orchard and gardens as they continue to grow.

Together, these initiatives reflect the strong sense of community at Maleny Grove, where neighbours come together to cultivate not just gardens, but connection.
