Clearing space for the next chapter
Residents and soon-to-be residents of Maleny Grove recently gathered for a relaxed and informative Decluttering for Seniors Morning Tea, enjoying practical advice alongside good conversation and connection.
Guest presenter Bob Morton from Property Clearance and Care To Move led the session, sharing thoughtful and practical guidance for those preparing to downsize, or simply looking to make their homes safer and more liveable.
Decluttering can often feel overwhelming, particularly when a home holds decades of memories. Bob encouraged attendees to take a steady, manageable approach.
Practical approaches to making the task more manageable include:
- Start small by focusing on one drawer, cupboard or room at a time
- Prioritise safety by clearing walkways and reducing potential trip hazards
- Sort items into simple categories such as keep, gift, sell or donate
- Consider selling unwanted items to generate extra funds
- Begin early if preparing a home for sale to avoid last-minute stress
For many attendees, it was reassuring to hear that decluttering doesn’t have to happen all at once. Taking steady, considered steps can make the process feel far less overwhelming.
Following the presentation, guests enjoyed a social morning tea, taking the opportunity to connect with neighbours and share their own experiences and tips.
It was a valuable and uplifting session, offering both practical guidance and encouragement for those preparing to embrace their next chapter at Maleny Grove.
Maleny Grove Sales Manager Desley Arnold said the session was designed to support residents through what can often feel like an emotional transition.
“Downsizing is about more than moving house, it’s about preparing for a new chapter,” she said.
“We wanted to provide practical advice in a relaxed environment where residents could feel supported and ask questions.
“It was wonderful to see residents sharing their own experiences and encouraging one another, which is what community living is all about.”
